Happy International Women’s Day, March 8, 2017!

Today is a day to celebrate women’s achievements towards full human equality. It is also a time to reflect and take action on removing the obstacles that continue to prevent women from full access and participation in the social, political, and economic lives of their societies.

This year’s focus for International Women’s Day is on women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work.  The video link here (and below) https://youtu.be/4sJgraJrEq4 introduces this theme for the upcoming session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women that will take place in New York next week.

Since the advent of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 in 2000, countries have, and continue to incorporate gender and women in national and foreign policy.  Here is a link to the Swedish Foreign Service Action Plan for Feminist Foreign Policy 2015-2018: http://www.government.se/information-material/2017/02/swedish-foreign-service-action-plan-for-feminist-foreign-policy-20152018-including-focus-areas-for-2017/
